Instructor Bio - Paul

Paul started his karate journey in 1986 when his father enrolled him in the local Wado-Ryu karate school. This early experience gave him a lifelong interest in martial arts and self protection.

After a break, Paul began training in Shotokan karate with his eldest daughter and they both qualified to 1st Dan in 2016.

Paul has a keen interest in applied karate and enjoys attending seminars focused on using karate for effective self defence. He has also enjoyed training with other noteworthy Karate instructors such as Bill Burgar, Leigh Simms, Iain Abernethy, Dom Came, and Les Bubka.

Paul continues his own Shotokan Karate training and instructor development and gained his 2nd Dan in 2018. He began training with the Kyohan Shotokan group on a regular basis in Autumn 2019 while doing a Pinan Flow System course with Coach John Titchen.

Paul graded to 3rd Dan in Shotokan Karate in November 2022. He has taken part in a number of Sim Days with John Titchen and enjoys sparring with the DART black belts and coaching others. Paul is also an instructor with Karate Toushi.

Paul now splits his martial arts interests between teaching and training Shotokan karate and applied training around the Pinan Flow / DART system. He has an enhanced DBS , undertakes regular safeguarding training, and is a qualified Designated Safeguarding Lead with the ISS(CIC) for the Practical Karate Association.
